Bissap for Americans

Economy Solution by Ibrahima D on August 27, 2012 at 10:14 AM

Bissap is a drink made from hibiscus. A product naturally made and from Senegal (West Africa). I am from Senegal and a MasterCard Foundation Scholar. I have lived in the US for a while and have noticed that people are not eating or drinking healthy. So this African drink is a solution that will promote a good side of Africa. My idea is to bring Bissap to the US. People in the US will have access to a healthy drink, while helping support the African economy. This will also help expose people to a better side of Africa.

Salaam Maalekum!

I love your idea! I was able to spend a semester in Dakar last year and drank lots of the local juices while I was there. Bissap is delicious and Americans would enjoy it just as much as the Senegalese.

Have you tried Jamaica? It is a South American/ Caribbean drink that is also made from hibiscus and tastes very similar to Bissap (it is more sweet and less tart). You can try at at many of the Mexican restaurants in Phoenix.
