Changemaker Partner Challenge - April: Valley of the Sun United Way

Communities Solution by Valley of the Sun United Way on April 12, 2012 at 8:02 AM

Valley of the Sun United Way (VSUW) is the Changemaker Partner of the Month for April. Community Impact Vice President for VSUW, Amy Schwabenlender, poses VSUW’s challenge question: How can our community work together to end and prevent homelessness?

VSUW has a long-term, multi-faceted strategy to end homelessness in Maricopa County, which includes community solutions like Permanent Supportive Housing. Meanwhile, Project Connect is a program that addresses the immediate needs of homelessness through intervention and prevention. Project Connect is held monthly throughout the Valley and brings together more than 30 human services providers in one location.

Submit your ideas by building on this solution and tagging your solution with “VSUW.” The winning solution will get a LIVE UNITED prize pack with United Way gear and is eligible to win the $10,000 grand prize.

Become a part of VSUW’s solution by volunteering at Project Connect: http://www.vsuw.org/volunteer/events/project-connect-april-2012

This is nice. At least there would be many options on finding reliable homes today. Good thing I saw this post. - Mercy Ministries

If you want to solve the physical problem of homelessness, you can employ a standard solution like this:
firstdaycottage.com

or think outside the box and develop geodesic homes which cost about $20,000 for 1800 square feet and take less than 300 hours to build.

Sometimes the best physical solution has to wait for social factors to catch up.
