Connecting with our neighbors
As a new homeowner, I’d love to get to know my new neighbors and create a better sense of community. Although there are regular social gatherings at the neighborhood clubhouse, I would be more likely to attend these events if there was an education component instead of just food and games. My idea is to host small neighborhood-based Ignite events twice a year in the clubhouse where community members can speak about their ideas and passions using the Ignite presentation style of a 5-minute talk with 20 presentation slides that advance every 15 seconds (http://igniteshow.com).
This would be a great way to meet the people I often see walking their dogs or working in the yard while learning about a variety of topics, including the type of work they do, hobbies they love or social causes they support. Maybe these talks will “ignite” some new interests in my neighbors and facilitate stronger community connections.
