Ella's Monitor - SIDS Sensor
Seymour Enterprises is a biomedical firm designing a low cost respiratory monitor designed for infants at elevated risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
Marketed to parents and hospitals, such a low cost device could potentially have tremendous impact on a little understood condition that affects so many lives so profoundly.
Using this technology as a starting point, a new line of low cost respiratory and vital sign monitoring equipment will then be developed and marketed to the healthcare community.
This technology will be user friendly, eliminating the need for adhesive electrodes and uncomfortable wires. Linking with smartphones and computers through wireless technology, this sensor will usher in a new paradigm of low-cost, high accuracy monitoring in a home setting.
With the smart phone tracking ability, it can also be used to track every infant that uses it. There could be a database where you could enter some information like age and any conditions, and any information received form the device can be saved and used for research for people studying SIDS. Time of day, breathing patterns, heart rates throughout the night can all be monitored and used to better understand what happens to infants while they sleep.
