More Child Developmental Classes at UMOM through help of volunteers
There are Child Developmental Classes found at UMOM New Day Center that range from ages 1-5.8-14 kids are in each class but there is currently a waiting list because the classes are full and there are not enough teachers to staff more classes. The classes provide the kids with learning opportunities and allow the parents to have time to attend their training, interviews, and do errands. In order to add classes more volunteers will need to be found. The budget at UMOM cannot be adjusted easily so hiring new teachers would be too difficult. The procedure could change to having one paid teacher per classroom and have the rest of the helpers be volunteers. Retired teachers could teach. I also think that the Girl/Boy Scouts could come in regularly and volunteer. Community service oriented classes could come in from ASU, Gateway, local junior colleges and high schools to fulfill hours. If UMOM is able to connect with the local classes, they can arrange to have a regular influx of volunteers.
