Reverse Groupon - Nopourg?
We all know how Groupon works...nail salons, restaurants, and sky diving companies offer one-time, gigantic deals to drive massive traffic. Now, why not instead of [company] offering deals to [consumers] can't [consumers] request deals from [company]? That would be real "Group Buying Power."
How would it work?
Individuals would come together to form a Group Purchasing Order. This already happens today, for example, with small lumber companies who buy collectively in order to compete with the pricing of Home Depot. We can extend this model to individuals who want to buy things we really want and need like groceries, music, airfares, bikes...and the list goes on.
Why would it work?
College is the best place to do this! Imagine it - we all live in extremely close proximity and have the same needs and wants. We can exploit competition in the market and our easy shipping situation (one huge shipment) to negotiate lower rates!
Hey, check out this article. It's along the same lines as your idea

I am currently teaching a class and part of the curriculum involves this subject matter. Do you have any other posts I can look at regarding this?

Great idea, Emilio! I never thought of flipping the Groupon idea on its head like that but it makes a lot of sense.
I agree with other posters who said this could become a somthing like a social network. One idea of how you could make this work would have people make user accounts, make posts with links of things that they need/want discounts on, and have the system count how many people are asking about specific things so that the company can go out to get them those discounts.
Groupon, Living Social, Deal Chicken, and all of those discount sites seem to have shot to success out of seemingly nowhere; I think that this idea you have can definitely follow that trend!
I like your idea! Hopefully this will be taken as constructive criticism. I think it's a great concept, I do foresee a problem with the communicating process with regards to large amounts of people just to save maybe $50 here and there. Companies are not going to lower their prices drastically, so the amount of time and effort to gather 1,000 or 10,000 people to call or march down to a retail store just seems a little bit unethical and too much of a hassle for so many people. Good luck, and way to think out of the box! I have been thinking about the Groupon and Living Social ideas lately as well, and thinking about how to profit in this market. One problem I see is that many people miss these awesome deals, or they are "sold out" after a day or so. Well, there are plenty of people who would buy that deal after it concludes but they were just a little bit too late, and i'm sure Groupon and Living Social would love to make more money. I propose a business model of being able to offer a pyramid marketing idea, where if someone misses the original promotion, then maybe the business offers a little bit of a less promotion to the rest of the consumers to at least get them buying their products. Something to think about. It would be soley internet based, and can have high profit margins. Good luck!

Emilio-
Great work! This is a perfect idea to submit to the ASU Innovation Challenge. All you need is 10 slides explaining your concept and a 2 page executive summary.
You should really check into it: http://www.innovationchallenge.asu.edu
Good luck!
Chris - Thanks for the comment! that is a very cool application. Definitely something to think about.
Steve - I just sent an email with my contact info. I look forward to talking with you!

Great concept, sounds a lot like the "Group Buy" idea used by auto enthusiasts to purchase aftermarket parts for their cars. If you could talk the folks at Google into incorporating this idea into their "shopping" results, it could take off.
