Save the Mascot Network
Majestic animals are the mascot inspiration for many professional, collegiate, and school sports teams. We forget that many are endangered or live in threatened habitats. What if there were national coalitions of professional sports teams joining with schools that share their mascots in conversation efforts? We can combine the passion of youth with the exuberance of professional sports to preserve the animals that inspire us. Teams can give something back to the mascot that motivates them - thousands of lives could be saved! Take tigers for example. Many teams love tiger mascots, yet fewer than 3200 live free. In AZ, diamondbacks, cardinals, and coyotes may not be endangered, but taking care of them means saving endangered species that share their habitats while preserving our beautiful desert. This will mean tackling human and economic issues in nearby communities - but that’s what a mascot is all about- taking inspiration from an animal to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds.
